Nav Station
I like the Elan 333 Nav station a lot. Firstly, it is truly separate
from the accommodation areas. It features:
| A good size table with effective fiddles. Occasionally, the charts
end up on the floor if we are beating into a stiff breeze. |
| Good storage area for almanacs, tidal info, pilot guides and the rest of
the paraphernalia that goes with sailing. |
| A good seat, which is completely separate from the accommodation. |
| Storage includes 3 drawers under the chart table, plus a locker under the
Nav seat. |
| A well laid out switch panel, and easy access to the well laid out wiring
behind. |
| An overhead light, which comes with a red filter that we never use! |
The only gripe in this department are the limited options to
tidily fit a more extensive electronic setup. Interestingly, we have used
the Garmin GPS12XL (and also a GPS12 on another boat) at the Nav station with
their internal antenna very successfully. We have only noticed had a
couple of 20 minutes GPS drop out in about 6 years of sailing.
