Engine

The engine is tucked away under the companionway.  This puts the weight as close to the center of the boat as possible, without impinging on the domestic arrangements.

The engine is the robust Yanmar 2GM20F.  It is a 2 cylinder 18 hp diesel beast.
It has decompressors to help if you get caught with a flat battery.  However, being the freshwater cooled model, it has the advantage of provide copious amounts of hot water, but the price to pay is that the freshwater cooling prevent a manual starting handle from being fitted.
Access to the engine is excellent, with access being possible from all 4 sides.
Access from the heads on the starboard side is useful to checking the oil.  Without this, you would loose skin on the back of your knuckles!

Good access for the oil dipstick

Access from the front is by removing the lower part of the companion way steps.
Access from the aft cabin allows both side access and rear access.
The water filter lives behind the engine and is easy to get at.

Easy access for the water filter

The fuel filter lives below the bunks in the aft cabin.
